About Me
Johnny is an award-winning Latino actor, filmmaker and host based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Arizona to Mexican and Colombian immigrant parents and a proud first-generation American. He studied broadcast journalism at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. While in Arizona, he was a CBS News Multi Media Journalist Fellow, training with professional news anchors, producers and reporting live in the field. Shortly after he became a camera operator for the ABC TV show, “Right This Minute,” created by the former producers of TMZ. In 2012, he decided to make a change and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film/TV. His work began as a film development intern for Panay Films at Disney Studios and quickly transitioned into acting and filmmaking. He worked production on several feature films and commercials while trying to audition for roles. Eventually booking guest spots on network shows such as, NCIS, Hawaii Five-0, SWAT and Narcos: Mexico. He is currently a series regular on Amazon’s single-cam comedy, “Primo,” produced by Michael Schur, producer of The Office and co-creator of Parks & Rec and Brooklyn 99. He can also be seen recurring on the Emmy-nominated series Pam & Tommy (HULU) and Grey’s Anatomy (ABC).
His independent film work most notably includes the award-winning indie feature, "I Am Still Here," which won several awards worldwide including "Best Feature" at the Nice International Film Festival in France. Johnny received several nominations and awards for his portrayal as the dark and disturbing lead antagonist in the film, winning a "Breakthrough Performance" Award at the Pasadena International Film Festival, "Best Lead Actor" Award at the Bare Bones Film Festival, "Best Actor" at the Peoples Film Festival in New York and "Best Actor" at the Indie Gathering Festival and "Best Actor" at the Beaufort International Film Festival.
As a filmmaker, he has produced/directed several projects, including co-directing the episodic pilot, “Puncher’s Chance.” The project won the Caz Matthews Award at SeriesFest 2023 and is now streaming on Tubi. His latest film,"Miracle Wood,” which he wrote, directed and produced, premiered at SeriesFest 2024 and won two awards, “Best Late Night” and the “Audience Award.”
As a host and spokesperson he has done work for the LA Galaxy, RAM/Chrysler, Acura, Little Caesar’s and Xfinity. He is currently an on-camera host for the Tennis Channel.
